One must either walk 10days or to fly to Lukla, a remote mountain airstrip where flights are disreputably unpredictable. It lies on the northern border of Nepal with Tibetin Khumbu region.

Khumbu region is reasonably popular not only for its proximity to the world’s highest peak but it is even famous for its typical Sherpa’s villages and monasteries sharing unique cultural heritage and their local livelihood.

Trekkers should read the section of mountain sickness in the health and First Aid chapter before planning for an Everest trek. The problem of access and high livelihood of acute mountain sickness (AMS) are the major complication to an Everest trek. This potentially deadly disease, is commonly known as altitude sickness caused by climbing too quickly to a high elevation. If you get suffer from symptoms of altitude sickness during your trip you can not go to the Base Camp. At that moment you can still make the less ambitious destination such as namche Bazzar, the Administrative headquarters of the khumbu region, Khumjung and distinctive Sherpa’s village or Tengpoche monasteries from where you can view an excellent Everest scene and its more spectacular neighbor Ama Dablam. The chief goal of Everest Trek is the Everest Base camp at an elevation of 5340m but from the Base Camp you can not see the Everest, so most of the trekkers climb to kalapattar, an unassuming 5545m bump on the southern flank of pumori (7145m).

The trekking season in Khumbu region is limited .October to November and March to May is regarded as the busiest trekking season of Khumbu. Even this period offers five days Dumje Festival usually held in April. It is said that the good season for Khumbu region is monsoon in which the wildflower and grazing yaks are full in high pastures, and the people are relaxed by taking a well-deserved break from trekking and expedition.
